Building back to running postpartum. Maybe a step too far. Be careful!

New video up today, and it’s one of those episodes I wanted to make because it’s real rather than tidy. It follows Naomi’s postpartum comeback, which had been going really well, right up until Walkington 10k threw a spanner in the works.

She’d had a niggle before the race that felt like “nothing” at the time. It’s such a familiar story to anyone who’s built training back up too eagerly, that small warning sign you talk yourself out of because the momentum feels too good to interrupt. In this case it turned into something she couldn’t just run through, and the video breaks down exactly what happened and why.

What I like about sharing this one is that postpartum running just isn’t linear, and pretending otherwise does nobody any favours. There’s a proper look at the training load she’d built up, the early warning signs that were probably there before Walkington, and how we’re now rebuilding things more sensibly from here.

If you’re coming back to running after having a baby, or you’re supporting someone who is, I think this is worth your time. It’s an honest account of rebuilding mileage, managing niggles, and trying to prevent the kind of overload that catches so many of us out when things are going well. Have a watch of the full video and let me know if any of it rings true for your own comeback.
