What an 83 Mile Week of 2:24 Marathon Training Actually Looks Like

This week’s video is the full breakdown of an 83.3 mile week, 60 days out from Valencia. Seven runs, a baby who’s just moved into her own room, and a lot of easy miles holding the whole thing together. I’ve tried to show every session properly rather than just the highlights, because I think it’s the unglamorous days that actually make a marathon block work.

There’s the marathon pace work, 3 x 2 miles with just two seconds between the quickest and slowest mile, which I’m chuffed with for consistency. There’s ten hills thrown in to build strength without having to find time for a gym session. A parkrun progression tucked into the middle of a 12 miler. And a 20 miler with 2 x 4 miles at marathon pace, which is always the one I’m thinking about from Monday onwards. Naomi ran her first fast 5K since Iris was born too, which was lovely to film.

But the number I actually care about most from the week isn’t 83.3. It’s 77%. That’s how much of the week was easy running, and it’s the bit people skip past when they’re totting up mileage. If you’re chasing a quick marathon yourself, the hard sessions matter, but it’s the easy days that let you absorb them.

Every day in the video has a sub 3 version alongside it, so whatever you’re training for, there should be something in there you can actually use this week, not just watch.

I’d love to know what the biggest week you’ve ever run looks like, just drop the number in the comments, kilometres are fine, I’ll do the maths. Go and watch the full video for every mile of it.

Manchester Marathon, April 2026

“Gareth took the time to understand me, adapt my training when needed, and support me through the ups and downs of a demanding marathon block. The sessions were clear, easy to follow, and gave me the structure and confidence I needed to keep progressing. His advice, flexibility and encouragement helped me become a better, stronger and more consistent runner, and ultimately played a huge part in helping me finally achieve my sub-3 marathon goal.”
