Season’s Best at the York 10k — 32:48 and a Big Step Forward

Back at the York 10k this week, and what a morning it turned out to be. Racing in a field of more than 6000 runners on a warm Yorkshire morning, I came away with a season’s best of 32:48, finishing 10th overall. That’s exactly the kind of checkpoint I’ve been chasing in this training block, and I’ve put the full breakdown up on the channel if you want to see how it unfolded.

Through 5k I was at 15:54 and feeling sharp, genuinely on for a strong second half. The river path and the Rowntree Park section had other ideas though, and that’s where things got tough. It’s a good reminder that a course can throw challenges at you no matter how well the training’s going, and how you respond to that is as much a part of racing as the pace on your watch.

Having Naomi and our daughter Iris out on the course cheering me on gave me a real lift when I needed it most. Those little moments make such a difference in a race like this, where pacing and rhythm only get you so far — mindset carries you through the rest.

Overall this felt like a big step forward in confidence and race sharpness, and it shows exactly where the current block is heading as I build towards bigger goals. Have a watch of the full video for the complete race breakdown, pacing strategy, and course analysis — I go through it all in detail and it’ll give you a proper sense of how this one played out from start to finish.
